Brief History

After the enactment of Cooperative Credit Societies Act,1904 and thereafter Cooperative Credit Societies Act, 1912 several Central Co-operative Credit Societies were established in the District of Birbhum as in any other District of West Bengal. Birbhum District Central Co-Operative Bank Ltd. started its journey after amalgamation of 4(four) CCBs namely Suri , Visva-Bharati, Nalhati & Rampurhat of Birbhum District as Birbhum District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd. from 29th December 1962.

Some eminent personalities of contemporary period such as Kabiguru Rabindranath, his son Shri Rathindranath Tagore, his daughter in law Smt. Pratima Tagore, the Collector of Birbhum at that time Shri Gurusaday Dutta, Kshitimohan Sen (grandfather of Nobel laureate Sri Amartya Sen), Railala Damodar Prasad Bahadur, E.W.Ariyan, Md. Babar Ali, Bholanath Sen, Ganesh Lal Bhakat and other renowned persons played a pivotal role to establish the cooperatives as well as Birbhum District Central Cooperative Bank Ltd. in the District of Birbhum.

This Bank started its journey with 4(four) Branches namely Suri, Visva-Bharati, Nalhati & Rampurhat. The bank extended its activities by opening 5(Five) Branches namely Bolpur, Kirnahar, Dubrajpur, Kotasur & Murarai in the year 1974, 2(Two) branches namely Labpur & Ahmedpur in the year 1977,  2 (Two) branches namely Abinashpur & Mollarpur in the year 1978, 1(one) Branch namely Lohapur in the year 1982, 2 (Two) Evening branches namely Bolpur Evening Br. & Rampurhat Evening Br. in the year 1999 & 1(One) branch namely Sainthia in the year 2000.

The Bank had its first Government Officer in the designation as ‘Manager’ from Govt. of West Bengal in the year 1973.  The Bank received its License from Reserve Bank of India on 12th September 2016. This bank is running under the Supervision of Co-operation Directorate, Govt. of West Bengal; NABARD & RBI.

At present the Bank has 15(fifteen) Branches all over the District of Birbhum. This Bank accumulates its Working Capital of Rs. 365.83 crore & has a Deposit of Rs. 245.21 Crore and has earned an operating profit of Rs. 11.14 Crore & CRAR of the Bank stands as 12.63% as on 31/03/2020. 

This Bank has been rendering modern banking services and facilities to its valuable individual customers as well as member societies at its level best.
